Supervisory Training

Supervisory Training is designed to help staff become successful and productive supervisors.  This is accomplished by having participants gain an understanding of their particular management style, and the skills necessary to become an effective supervisor.  In order to adequately complete these objectives, participants first need to gain a fundamental understanding of Blake's managerial grid.  This is accomplished during the first day of supervisory training through a film and a general input of theoretical information.  In order to ensure that the exchange of knowledge from the trainer to the participants was successful a quiz is given, scored and discussed by the group.

The second day of training has participants gain an understanding of their particular management style.  This is accomplished using a role play exercise and a conflict resolution exercise where participants can receive constructive feedback from their peers on their management style.  Once this has been accomplished, participants can now discuss the individual skills necessary to either change their management style or improve their style.  Participants learn about these skills through several inputs covering the rhythm of supervision, time management, the hiring process, qualities in staff and one-to-one supervisory meeting.

Quite often, Supervisory Training is conducted as the result of internal problems and feelings between line-staff and supervisors, and different departments.  When this is the case components of Group Dynamics Training are incorporated with Supervisory Training.  The purpose of this is to create a vehicle that allows for proper processing of hidden agendas and problems between individuals and departments.  This Supervisory Training becomes a 5-day design to allow for the resolution of all relevant issues.
